I didn't jump on the Baby Lips bandwagon. To be honest, I haven't even tried them yet! I love my lipbalm but they just didn't really appeal to me and I'm not overly keen on tinted lipbalms. When I saw Baby skin however, I was slightly more intrigued and decided to give it a go.
Firstly the packaging. The tube is pretty cute and the colours straight away remind me of the Benefit Porefessional. I like the nozzle of the tube as it allows the product to come out slowly and in small amounts. Instantly I disliked the name of this primer. I understand it's the brand, like Baby Lips, but I just don't think that it suits the product. On both the front and the back of the packaging they have felt the need to print 'Only for adults'! If this was required then Maybelline should have realised the name was no use!
The product is designed to be used as a primer but can also be worn on it's own. It is a thick gel and has a similar consistency to Porefessional. I am not sure if this was made as a dupe of the Benefit primer but it claims to do the same thing and has similar packaging so it will obviously be compared. I have Porefessional and like it but it isn't something I use very often. My pores are not big and not particularly visible however application of this did nothing to mask them at all. It feels nice to apply but doesn't leave quite as silky a finish as the Benefit equivalent. My makeup applied well and didn't soak into my skin as much, meaning I was able to use less. It stayed put all day but I have that result with most primers.
This claims to be a pore eraser and in my opinion it just doesn't do that job. The tiny tube contains only 22ml of product, the same quantity as Porefessional. This is £7.99 which, although much cheaper than Benefit's offering, is not cheap enough considering it doesn't really do the job it claims to do. I will use this as a primer, because my pores are not big and don't bother me, but I don't see myself repurchasing.
Have you used Baby Skin? I'd love to know what you think!
I picked this up yesterday and I'm going to try it for the first time tomorrow. I used the sample on my hand and I love how it felt on my skin! Be exited to see how your review compares to my review!

I never tried baby lips so wasn't sure what to expect!
DeleteI've seen such mixed review on this that I had to get it myself to see how it works on my skin. I haven't tried it yet, but it'll be interesting to see since it seems to cause quite strong reactions - love or hate I guess :o). Xx

Dont buy this! Used for 4 days and my once clear skin is broken out! It's very greasy and clogged my pores! Wish I could find a good mattifying primer.
Deletethis is the first negative one I read. Generally I am very skeptical about primers because i never see any difference with them, but with all the hype on benefit porefessionals, I was about to give in. Maybe it is not all that different.
ReplyDeleteAw i feel away I feel like a meanie giving it such a bad review! X
DeleteAh this sounds so promising, what a shame you didn't find it lived up to its claims!

I know! I feel bad ruining everyone's hope for this product haha x
DeleteI didn't bother with the baby lips either and don't think I will with this too! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice idea but doesn't live up to its claims x
DeleteI'm just noticing bigger pores on my cheeks near my nose. I decided to buy this product and give it a try. I'm 40 and it seems to me all the reviews that rave about this product are being given by very young women. They must be looking in magnifying mirrors in order to even spot their pores!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my experience was much like yours. It feels very silky (I have not tried Benefit or any other brands designed to minimize pores). However, it does not "blur" pores. Nor does it act as a proper primer. I used my regular Revlon stick makeup over it, thinking maybe it would help the makeup ride above the pores.
I was shocked when I realized the makeup didn't cover the pores at all with Baby Skin under it! There were giant holes around the small pores even after I blended it! Baby Skin goes straight in the trash!
I'm pretty sure this "Baby" line as well as others like it are simply being made to sell us on the idea that we shouldn't even have pores at all and if we do there's something wrong with us so buy! Buy! Buy!
I'm sickened that Baby Lips is being advertised now as if having lines on our lips is unnatural or bad as well! Have you ever looked at a baby's face!? Even very small babies have visible pores and they absolutely have lines on their lips!
Normally, I'm not much of a protester. But, these products and their ads make me very angry. Are we so desperate that we will shell out billions to the beauty industry, knowing deep down that we will never look like 14 year old, airbrushed models? Yes, we will and we do because of ad campaigns slyly designed to make us watch it in its beauty while imposing the fear that we are not good enough! We must buy the product or suffer the consequences of a non-beautiful woman who quickly becomes an outcast, an irrelevant being whose time has past.
We live in sad, superficial times. Find what you like and what works for you and leave it at that. Stop feeding the machine that just wants to crush you into nothing but an open wallet.
